Overview of A STARTER FOR 10!

A Starter for 10! introduces the collaboration shaping the next chapter of YourBigPic, decoding the DNA of Wicked Outcomes™. Building on the Six ITs™ (Resource-IT, Collabor-IT, Frame-IT, Innov-IT, Measure-IT, Iter-IT), we’re working across Partners to understand what really lasts when change goes live. These stories aren’t about deliverables or dashboards; they explore what improves, endures, or quietly reshapes how people decide and work together long after the project buzz fades.

What's on your pad?

Tell us your challenge

Scratching our heads here.

When Bryce and I first went at Wicked Challenges, we briefly covered off the outcomes, referred as Wicked Outcomes. The identification of the tricky challenges, recognising not all types of problems are the same taking a reference from the 1973 Wicked Problems original concept, and taking it inside the organisation boundary. At the time, in 2022 it was new to be bringing together our Partners around a single concept, and it felt right to deal with the Challenges first. We got that wrong oops!

Well not totally wrong. We realised we came to develop the 'hero image' for the site putting Outcomes at the centre, generated from the Challenges applying our Six ITs. But we needed more on the Outcomes, and we’re open to collaboration!

Resource it

Securing the different kinds of Resources required that are essential for resolving Wicked Challenges™. Not solely People but the Knowledge, Skills, Budget, and Time.

Collabor-it

Bringing  colleagues together in the same room on the same page. Insights shared, dots joined, turn challenges into opportunities and outcomes!

FRAME It

Describing the situation so that all stakeholders engage and develop shared meanings. As a result, embrace a shared commitment on what success will mean.

INNOV-It

Encouraging innovative thinking to help make difficult choices and trade-offs and not be put off by the messy, combative, iterative ways decisions are often made.

Measure It

Scoring a realistic standard of success rather than a goal that is perhaps unrealistic. Towards improving Wicked Outcomes™ made-up of Solutions and Benefits.

Iter-It!

Committing to multiple iterations is essential to maintain flexibility and build confidence in the journey. Regular checkpoints provide accountability for the whole team.

The Wicked Outcomes paper will, to the best of our knowledge, decode the DNA of Wicked Outcomes, those things you want to stick. Not the outputs part at go-live, more what happens a good long time after that. What has actually got better, or worse, and what makes that an aim for your current activity. We’re working across our Partners and beyond so if you have a view and willing to share then let us know.

The DNA will be in the form of a definition, with it’s own set of Essential and Supplementary Elements to poke a stick at i.e. not abstract and fluffy. A blueprint to overarch and underpin all the work we do @YourBigPic.

Wicked Outcomes are born in the spaces between people, where collaboration stops being a meeting and becomes the organisation’s living system. Here, we’re exploring this first inside YourBigPic, testing, reflecting, learning, and we’re inviting others to chip in. Each conversation, workshop, or challenge adds another strand to the 'crazy quilt' we’re weaving together.

When co-creation takes root, behaviour changes quietly: decisions distribute, trust replaces oversight, and purpose starts to show up in daily work. What began as a Wicked Challenge of “getting people to work together” becomes evidence of shared authorship.

Collaboration here isn’t facilitation, it’s how we do the work.”

MARTIN JOHNSON

I'm really happy to be collaborating again with Bryce Biggs. It's already an interesting exercise checking back over the client gigs and learnings around Outputs and Outcomes, Benefits and Solutions, and what Wicked Outcomes are NOT, which we'll be unpacking these but for now how about these kinds of things:

❌ Presentations/reports/workshops delivered
❌ Single KPIs improved
❌ Projects delivered on time/budget *maybe a surprise?!
❌ Values on posters/induction videos
❌ Cost cuts
❌ Temporary project enthusiasm

If you want to chip in your thoughts please ring/ping me! In the meantime, if you keep this page handy we'll be adding connected Stories to it as we go so you can flick through them as and when you wish. If you've put your hand up for active collaboration then we'll be at you with the latest and if not sit back and see if we ring any bells for you,
