All Onboard!

Published: 17th May, 2021

So with spring in the air (in the northern hemisphere at least) people are watching their respective Government’s ‘roadmaps out of Covid-19 lockdown’ closely, anxious to ensure children’s return to school is secured, social contact is resumed, more recreational and associated activities are opened, travel (within the country) is relaxed, non-essential retail is opened, people can get to the hairdressers, happy (and sad) family events will be more accessible .. and people can return to the workplace.

And so, having considered the government advice around:

• Working from home until lockdown restrictions or social distancing is relaxed; then
• Facilitating a return to the workplace in line with COVID-secure workplace guidance;

It’s time to run an Onboarding Programme for ALL your staff as they return physically to the workplace, or continue to work from home.

We were led through with Onboarding Lead Andrea Moffat thanks to one and all for a thoroughly engaging conversation! As a simulation of how we work it through please do ask us how we can bring your team or community onto the same page. It’s the pace and clarity that is striking keeping a natural yet structured conversation. Because it’s your colleagues making and doing the connections continue to flow before, during and after the event itself.

As businesses are reopening in part or full, and mindful of advice and restrictions that continue to change, employers must plan for any return to the workplace in a way that cares for their people and safeguards their health and wellbeing.’

The BIG PICTURE® Board works at the:

– Organisational level to communicate the new realities in this post/living-with’ Covid-19;
– Divisional and Department level to understand what the inevitable changes have meant for the interrelationships when serving the customer;

– Team level to work through the practicalities and emotional aspects of some people being in the workplace and others continuing to work from home; and
– Individual level where some people may be anxious about returning to the workplace, having concerns about competence, confidence and relationships.

The ‘webinar’ word doesn’t really describe what it is we do with our time in sessions. We love a conversation where everyone has the chance to contribute.

Participants are provided with the means to make connections thus drawing attention to the conversation that is going on around.

It’s how we roll!

So many variables to make sense of for colleagues returning to their existing and new workplaces. Why not take away some of those variables by using a straightforward language to get the team on the same page? In doing so you cover more ground in less time, generating more insights and more of the right kinds of conversation as a basis for working together going forward.

This was a fabulous demonstration and whether you’ve watched the highlights here are a few questions to further your thinking as to why you would get ‘All Onboard!’:

1. How could getting the whole team on the same page enable you as an organisation to identify Challenges and Opportunities you need to factor in to the ‘living with Covid’ world we are entering?

2. How could it help the potential changed relationships between departments, and with Partners and Suppliers given shifts in the business?

3. How would you, without how our help, facilitate team-working and the different expectations people will have (e.g. returning to the workplace v continuing to work from home etc)?

4. How could a conversation like this enable you to fulfil a duty of care to individuals who will each have experienced this last year very differently?

Time to tell your own story – let’s go ..

Please do ask us to help you achieve this same impact in your organisation. We can deliver this activity for you and at the same time upskill your team to take over the delivery. You can weave this into your ongoing activities which means you’re paying once for resources and deploying them many times across your organisation.

Find out more about our approach for Welcoming Colleagues led by Andrea Moffat. You can have a go yourself by printing and writing on the resource within the brochure you can download. The stuff we care about is all over our YouTube channel @YourBigPic. I would love to take you through a taster of BIG PICTURE® in a Webinar you can sign-up for here. Thanks for reading!
