Learning is a Verb!

If we’re helping people to acquire learning, or knowledge and skills, try creating an immersive experience. With a piece of paper in front of you with the same pattern as what’s on screen, you can get sucked into those different parts of the Board, and capture your thinking on there. Rather then lifting one’s head and pouring in knowledge we are about igniting the wisdom in people. And that’s how we use BIG PICTURE®.

Rapport is incredibly important between and the end instructor and the learner. I think you need to try and build rapport between the attendees as well. So everybody needs to be comfortable, and feel encouraged and enabled to contribute in whatever way shape or form and they wish.

Reducing uncertainty and anxiety about what might happen by chatting and laughing. It’s the simple stuff like that, that makes a big difference. People want to feel safe so we take turns for people to speak.

Give everybody their own voice invested in the process so you can put your symbol anywhere you choose- I can’t make you do that. The power lies in the hands of the individual to create their own representation.

When all is said and done has everyone had their chance? Can we piece together the inputs and determine a positive outcome from what we have spent our time doing? Have the big ticket items been addressed?

Let’s make our learning human and introduce an element of play. It reminded us of a piece of work where we conducted individual interviews with the team so that they could their own story. They have complete control of what went on their piece of paper. They weren’t influenced by anyone else. It was just us asking the questions and they built that picture. When we presented that to the whole team together as like a gallery to find out what people could see by looking from different perpectives.

Moving on we created a shared view it was super powerful for that group of people to identify the Challenges that they had in their organisation and then the Opportunities. They didn’t have to listen to the HiPPO, the highest paid opinion in the room. They got to see each other’s thinking and really visual terms. So it’s a great leveller.

There’s no right or wrong.

We often ask for authority, I hear the term “Am I allowed to?” .. yes, people are allowed to, and of course, what they think at the time is their truth. If they’re willing to share that that’s interesting in itself, even though it might not be in line with what we might call the official line.

Hosted with Learning Lead Bev Holden of The Clear Thinking Partnership.

Please do ask us to help you achieve this same impact in your organisation. We can deliver this activity for you and at the same time upskill your team to take over the delivery. You can weave this into your Change and Performance activities which means you’re paying once for resources and deploying them many times across your organisation.

Find out more about our approach for Engaging Learning. You can have a go yourself by printing and writing on the resource within the brochure you can download. The stuff we care about is all over our YouTube channel @YourBigPic. I would love to take you through a taster of BIG PICTURE® in a Webinar you can sign-up for here.
