Get yourself a brew and tune in to this similated experience of a new starter Onboarding using BIGPICTURE®. Harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of your new starters, rather than gving them something to read and losing them, invite them to build a picture from their own perspective. This is a showcase of engagement for new starters in businesses that are demonstrating a People-first, Values-based approach most importantly willing to act upto what their employees think.

Imagine how my heart sunk when I was given the Standard Operating Procedures to read! I was so excited and had so many ideas I just wanted to show what I could do. New starters after me got this amazing experience with YourBigPic and I can see the difference in their work immediatly!

PREPARATION

Prepartion is everything. We, as thought leaders, are responsible for doing the hard work to ensure that we create the conditions in which the new starter can demonstrate their ability to do their best work.

For that to happen we require a safe and welcoming environment for them to feel settled and build their confidence. This is not the focus here but maybe it will feature in the future- here we are focusing on giving them the tools, or as we call them the dots, to be able to join together their version of reality. This needs to be as simple as it can be without being any simpler. It’s the joining of these dots and their associated meaning that will lead to wholesome and helpful conversation for that employee developing themselves in the role.

MAKING AND DOING

Given the focus is the employee in the context of the business our ‘dots’ are the key elements of the business in the form of symbols. Appearing simple it was when these are connected together by the new starter, immediatly on arrival, that they are beginning the practice of gaining a sense of themsleves in the context of the the organisation. An example being the Purpose of the business and another, as we see in the session the Measures that the business uses to define ‘good’.

TAKE AWAYS

When the team start talking, they have a chance to share what they really think, and so:

– They are more likely to be productive in their time with the company.

– The business will enjoy a ready supply of new opportunities each and every time you get to the truth- the challenge is working out what to do with them all! Boss Bill gets the most of her team and is able to translate that up to the board.

– Employees are likely to stay with the company for longer and that means avoiding the costs of rehiring- worse case 6-9 months of an the employee’s salary to locate and train a replacement and 2 years to become fully productive. Not to mention the toll on existing employee productivity and morale.

BIGPICTURE® naturally generates extremely high engagement levels as you provide your people with the tools they require to share useful truths about the business. With light-touch delivery it means you can involve large group sizes, of up-to 20, with no drop off in engagement levels.

WATCH IT!

The ‘webinar’ word doesn’t really describe what it is we do with our time in sessions. We love a conversation where everyone has the chance to contribute.

Participants are provided with the means to make connections thus drawing attention to the conversation that is going on around.

It’s how we roll!

WHAT NEXT ?

Please do ask us to help you achieve this same impact in your organisation. We can deliver this activity for you and at the same time upskill your team to take over the delivery. You can weave this into your Strategy-related activities which means you’re paying once for resources and deploying them many times across your organisation.

Find out more about our approach for Engaging Onboarding. You can have a go yourself by printing and writing on the resource within the brochure you can download. The stuff we care about is all over our YouTube channel @YourBigPic. I would love to take you through a taster of BIG PICTURE® in a Webinar you can sign-up for here.
