Think First or Do First?

Published: 21st October, 2020

From his Shifting Paradigm series Kevin Watson of My Own Coach the question:

Does our mindset affect our actions? or

Do our acts change our mindset?

We didn’t just talk about it we got on with a collaborative exercise using our BIG PICTURE® Digital Kit. This helped us work through an exercise where one business was putting their training online and the question became best to get straight on or to put our ‘doing’ into a more thoughtful approach. As a result 5 key ‘doing’ processes for us to take away and consider in our own businesses maybe you could too?

“There is more to the question that first appears- which makes it a good question! Rather than a choice it is a sequence from one to the other where the ‘doing’ is a thought process before the more obvious ‘doing’ – which is now better informed!”

If we are to think first we can focus attention towards:

Taking time to consider what our identity and purpose really are right now and in the future.

Creating that sense of Human connection within the communities we serve.

A sense of place for every individual within the changing worlds around us.

Fully understand the impact of the Change of location and environment.

A fit for purpose Reward and Recognition system that is fair.

What is apparent is that the thought and consideration is for you, us, the colleague who sits within the organisational structure rather than the structure itself. This need to step back to consider the human condition is becoming more evident in recent times where we are spending so little time physically together.

Irrespective of the headline topic the same themes are bursting out. The organisational structure is what the book ‘Sapiens’ calls a ‘pretend structure’. Without doubt essential to us to functional together as a working commercial unit but not, it appears more evident than ever, as one that satifies our basic human needs. If we are able to think first let’s get these basics right amongst us before getting down to business.

The ‘webinar’ word doesn’t really describe what it is we do with our time in sessions. We love a conversation where everyone has the chance to contribute.

Participants are provided with the means to make connections thus drawing attention to the conversation that is going on around.

It’s how we roll!

Please do ask us to help you achieve this same impact in your organisation. We can deliver this activity for you and at the same time upskill your team to take over the delivery. You can weave this into your Change and Performance activities which means you’re paying once for resources and deploying them many times across your organisation.

Find out more about our approach for Engaging Change. You can have a go yourself by printing and writing on the resource within the brochure you can download. The stuff we care about is all over our YouTube channel @YourBigPic. I would love to take you through a taster of BIG PICTURE® in a Webinar you can sign-up for here.
